The cases are helpful; however, realize that there are NO answers whatsoever to the questions presented in the cases--not a huge problem I suppose, b/c you can google everything, but certainly an annoyance. (esp. when there are multiple possible answers. The author states in the foreword that some of the cases are real; in which case, why not provide the justification presented in the patient's chart as to why that patient takes a particular drug, esp. considering that you may take a drug for its side effects rather than its therapeutic effect. . .anyhow. . )I think if the author provided at least SOME insight/guidance to the cases that it would be much more helpful, but until then, I'm skeptical as to why others gave this book 5 stars.
Don't purchase the KINDLE version! It's a waste of money because it doesn't come with the CD supplement that is REQUIRED to complete the case studies! This book is a rip-off to put required material (rather than supplemental only) on a CD and then offer an electronic version of the book without a supplement. I completely threw my money away on this unknowingly. Very disappointed this company is ripping off poor college students.
The case studies are well written (you WILL need the provided CD-ROM for supplemental information), but there is no answer key for the questions posed in the text. I bought this for a pathophysiology class, so some cases were discussed in class. Otherwise, this is just an overpriced workbook. There should be an option to obtain the answer key after completing a class.
I had to purchase this for my Advanced Pathophysiology class in my Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. It is very easy to understand and have pretty good case studies. I like that the CD that accompanies the book goes into some detail in explaining the cases further and the disease processes without giving you the answers to the questions. It stimulates one to think!! Once this class is over I will go back from time to time to review!!
Not required by my FNP program, but I got it as an additional resource. It has some useful information, but overall would not buy it again as there are much better resources.
Bought this a tool to help my daughter study. No way to check to see if your answers are correct. Would never had purchased if I had known there was no way to verify answers. Seems useless if you could be studying the wrong answers.
This is a nice compliment to other classroom instruction materials. I am teaching an advanced pathophysiology course in a nurse practitioner program. This book is very helpful for students to put together the concepts of patho with the clinical setting. Will use these for in-class group assignments. Case-studies are thorough and offer a variety of different disease processes to choose from. It certainly does not offer a case study for every possible disease or clinical scenario, but does cover most major areas and enough variety in my opinion. Should be helpful in reinforcing the clinical significance of some difficult to understand concepts. I would recommend this text to course instructors.
Used this for a Patho class and thought it was a great resource. My group had hypertension and it was really good about giving an overview of the disease without overwhelming you with information. Some of the studies were obvious as to why the disorder occurred but in those cases it helped link body systems and show interactions.
