About the Author
Carlos Montemayor (Parral, 1947) Es autor de una reconocida obra narrativa, poetica y ensayistica. Ha investigado, por sus tareas como novelista, los movimientos guerrilleros en Mexico y dedica gran parte de su trabajo critico a la literatura actual y tradicional en varias lenguas indigenas de nuestro pais. Asimismo, su labor como analista politico ha sido importante en muchos sentidos. Como poeta y traductor literario ha prestado atencion especial a la poesia clasica griega y latina y a varias corrientes de la poesia latinoamericana y europea del siglo XX. Es Miembro de Numero de la Academia Mexicana de la Lengua y Correspondiente de la Real Academia Espanola. Ha recibido numerosos reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales, entre otros, el Premio Internacional Juan Rulfo por su cuento Operativo en el Tropico; el Xavier Villaurrutia por la Llaves de Urgell; el Jose Fuentes Mares por su libro de poesia Abril y otras estaciones y el Premio de Narrativa Colima por Guerra en el Paraiso (1991; Seix Barral, 1997). Su ensayo Chiapas, la rebelion indigena de Mexico (Joaquin Mortiz, 1996, edicion actualizada 1998; Espasa, Madrid, 1998), Rehacer la historia (Planeta 2000) y Los pueblos indios de Mexico (Temas de Hoy, 2001) son determinantes para entender la problematica actual de nuestro pais.
