I usually dislike textbooks but Forrest Mims deserves a spot on my book shelf. I think of him as the Bob Ross of electronics. His series of books are incredibly detailed but simple enough that you don't need a math degree to understand. He gives you enough information to get you going in a well compiled, easy to follow way. Combine Forrest Mims with The Art of Electronics and you can teach yourself a great deal about circuitry. I believe this volume should come later in the mini series but if you are buying out of order, it doesn't matter. This is a great way to get a few ideas for working circuits.I especially recommend this for teenagers or even kids interested in Electronics.
The engineers project type book, Timer, Op Amp, and Optoelectronic Circuits & projects is a selection of circuits you can build or expierment with if you like or are learning electronics. It is very similar to Radio Shack Notebook series booklets offered in years ( 70's) past, for the study and experimentation with electronics. This book is nore booksize and has a lot of pages packed with diagramed circuits of the previously mentioned components. Get one if you are into project electronics and would like some ideas to build on in the future. Worth the price if you can still get a copy, do so.
A great summary of what has taken me extensive searches online to find. Great summary and short and concise explanations of basic 555 and OPAMP circuits.
This book is definitely for beginners. There's little or no theory but the explanations of how-to-do-it were useful. I think anyone could do the projects but I doubt they would learn much theory. They would however, learn some skills and terminology that could be useful as the novice grows in knowledge. I think this book has the potential of getting someone interested in electronics without any threatening math and theory to scare them away. If you are beyond beginners status in electronics this book has little to offer beyond what could be a few useful circuits. There is no explanation of how the circuits actually work but they do tell you what they are for.
Forrest Mims III writes some very good and understandable electronic learning material for the beginner to intermediate hobbyist. I have almost all of his mini books and there are all easy to read and fun to work on the projects he shows in his books,
Ordered the entire series of four from amazon and wasn't disappointed. Great engineering reference with practical examples! Great desk reference! Clear writing and good prose. had an issue with some missing pages and the publisher sent out a replacement right away! great service!
The only OpAmps we see now are in IC's. This book shows OpAmps built from discrete components on a circuit board as well as the IC varieies. It covers IC OpAmps and their circuit desighn. It is most interesting as a historical reference.
The book showed in pristine condition in a timely manner. The diagrams are large and easy to read, and while the subject is technical, the writing style lends itself to the hobbyist. It feels more like a knowlegeable friend explaining intricacies of their job than a dry technical manual.
